DOC Friuli Colli Orientali

GRAPES:   Merlot

YEAR OF PLANTING: 1971

We produce it in limited quantities only in the best vintages from our oldest vineyard (1971)

TASTING NOTES :
Strong ruby red color with garnet shades. On the nose it is an intense and complex wine. The fruity note is dominant, with hints of cherry (maraschino or sour cherry), tamarind, but also raspberries and other small berries. Read the tertiary notes of leather, coffee and liquorice. In the mouth the tannin is present, but its texture is soft and gives balance and finesse to the wine.

PAIRING:
It is a soft and harmonious wine, which goes well with important main courses with meat sauces or with red roasted or grilled red meat main courses.

HISTORY :
Black grape variety is native to the Bordeaux area where, together with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it contributes to the production of the most famous wines in the world. It was introduced in Italy in 1880 by Senator Pecile and Count Di Brazzà, to spread at first in Friuli and then in Veneto. In Friuli Venezia Giulia, it has certainly found a land of choice: a cornerstone of Friulian enology, it is today the most widespread black grape variety.
